NELSON THOMPSON
Paintings & Drawings circa 1948 - 1986

As a teacher Nelson Thompson turned to Socrates for his philosophy as an educationalist: "To teach is to create." And in the writings of Cezanne he found what became his definition of a painter: "Let us study nature and seek to express it according to our personal temperament. Time and reflection gradually modifies vision, and at last experience comes." Wynne Colgan, cited in Art New Zealand Summer '90/'91
